Is Your Hot Water Pipe Leaking Inside Your Walls or From your Water Heater?

If a hot water pipe starts leaking inside your walls, it can cause major damage, causing several issues. Finding where the leak is coming from is the most difficult part. It is very inconvenient, causes mold to grow and costs money.
There are 3 general reasons to why a hot water pipe starts leaking:
- There is increased water pressure in the tank
- A faulty float valve
- An overused washer
One of the most basic dangers of a leaking water heater is the damage to the surrounding floor and walls. Again, it can lead to mold and even seep down into the foundation of the home. This can weaken the foundation of your home. If water is coming from the water heater it has the potential to be dangerous and even deadly. If gas is leaking near the water heater, the ignition flame can ignite the gas causing pressure to build up in the tank. THis can lead up to an explosion.
The following steps need to be taken to fix the problem:
- Turn off the water to the tank
- Turn off the power supply to the tank
- Determine the location of the leak
- Loosen the drain valve
- Try to release the pressure going into the tank.
Most insurance policies cover burst pipes and water heater leaks. Water damage is generally covered if the cause was accidental and unpredictable.
